Tango Vision vs Mappedin
Mappedin makes the map of your venue. Building OS runs the building the map describes — the same floor plan also carrying work orders, leases, equipment and sensor data.

Where Mappedin is strong.
Written by us, about a competitor. We would say the same in a sales meeting — and a comparison with no concessions reads as a brochure.
Mapping is their whole product, and it shows
Mappedin has spent a decade on indoor map rendering and venue tooling, and it is genuinely good. If a beautiful, fast, well-supported venue map is the outcome you are buying, they are a serious answer and we would say so in a sales meeting.
A large, proven venue footprint
Airports, stadiums and mall groups run on Mappedin at a scale we do not claim to match. Ask them for references in your building type; they will have them.
Self-service editing and an open wrapper ecosystem
Their map editor is self-service, and their iOS, Android and React Native SDK repositories are public under MIT, with a GPL-2.0 QGIS plugin for reading their MVF venue format. The rendering core itself is proprietary — which is the industry norm, ours included today.
Capability by capability.
Presence of a capability, not scores. Where we could not verify something from public material, the table says so rather than guessing.
| Capability | Tango Vision | Mappedin |
|---|---|---|
| 2D and 3D indoor map rendering | Yes | Yes |
| Self-service map editor | Yes | Yes |
| IFC / BIM and CAD import | Yes — plus CSV, an existing CAFM or BMS, or drawn from scratch | Map creation from floor plans |
| IMDF import and exportApple's Indoor Mapping Data Format is the interchange standard both sides support, which means neither of us can hold your map hostage. Our round-trip is verified against Apple's own Triview sample archive: 587 of 587 features and every level id identical after parse, export and re-parse. | Yes | Yes |
| Offline venue bundles | Yes | Yes |
| Embeddable viewer with a URL API | Yes | Yes |
| Blue Dot live positioningTheirs is the more mature answer. We deliberately built the interface rather than the engine, because positioning and rendering decoupled years ago and every serious vendor plugs in a specialist. If continuous blue-dot tracking is the requirement today, weigh this row heavily. | QR-anchor baseline, plus a provider interface for commercial engines | Yes |
| Semantic building graphThis is the structural difference, not a feature gap. A room in our model is one object that a work order, a lease and a route all point at. A room in a map product is a polygon with a label. | Yes — W3C BOT (Site, Building, Storey, Space, Element) | Map geometry with point-of-interest labels |
| Facility management — work orders, planned maintenance | Yes | No |
| Leasing and tenant management | Yes | No |
| IoT and building-systems telemetry | Yes | No |
| AI agent surface (Model Context Protocol) | Yes — every module exposes MCP tools | Not stated publicly |
| Runs on your own infrastructureWe could not find a public statement of on-premise or data-residency options on their site or developer documentation. That is a gap in their published material rather than a confirmed no — ask them directly if sovereignty is a requirement. | Yes — on-premise is the same software, not a reduced edition | Not stated publicly |
Which one should you buy?
One of these two answers is going to be right for your building, and it is not always ours.
Choose theirs
Choose Mappedin
Choose Mappedin if what you need is a venue map: you want the best indoor map experience for visitors, continuous blue-dot positioning matters, and the building's operational systems are somebody else's problem. That is a completely reasonable purchase, and a map product will serve you better than a platform you only use a tenth of.
Choose ours
Choose Building OS
Choose Building OS if the map is one of the things you need rather than the thing you need — if the same floor plan should also carry the work orders, the leases, the equipment register and the sensor data, and if the whole thing has to run inside your own perimeter.
